Founded by two lifelong theater nerds with decades of experience in performance, design, and technical artistry, we bring the same level of dedication and precision to every project we take on. Our passion is transforming ideas into cinematic, wearable, and performance-ready costumes that capture the essence of the characters we all love.
Who We Are
Meet Todd Welch and Katie Strength, the creative duo behind OuterRim. With backgrounds in professional theater, costume design, directing, and storytelling, they’ve spent years honing their craft—on stage, behind the scenes, and now in the workshop building movie-quality custom cosplay commissions. Their shared love of audiobooks, caffeine-fueled workdays, and the art of making a big mess before making magic is how OuterRim became where the story becomes wearable.
Todd Welch
Todd brings decades of experience in professional theater, education, and design to OuterRim Creatives. With a bachelor’s degree in theater emphasizing scenic design and a Master’s in the Business of Art and Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Todd bridges creative vision with technical execution.
He oversees OuterRim’s business operations—including marketing, client experience, financial management, and logistics—while leading all digital and structural design work. Todd is responsible for 3D modeling, printing, surface finishing, painting, and digital transfer art, ensuring that each costume translates seamlessly from concept to physical reality. His leadership and multidisciplinary approach set the foundation for builds that are visually striking, structurally sound, and designed to perform in the real world.
Katie Strength
Katie leads OuterRim’s creative process with a lifetime of experience in professional theater as an actor, director, voice actor, and costume designer. As a former theater owner and creative director, she has spent decades shaping stories from the inside out—guiding performances, building worlds, and understanding how character, movement, and design work together to tell a cohesive narrative.
Her mastery of fabric selection, pattern drafting, and garment construction is grounded in that storytelling foundation. Katie designs costumes not just to be seen, but to be inhabited—pieces that support performance, communicate character, and move naturally with the person wearing them. Her deep understanding of story, combined with meticulous craftsmanship, ensures that every OuterRim build feels intentional, expressive, and alive.
